Dandadan is a supernatural action-comedy anime that follows two high school students, Momo Ayase and Ken “Okarun” Takakura, who have clashing beliefs about the paranormal. Momo, who comes from a family of spirit mediums, believes in ghosts but not aliens. Okarun, on the other hand, is an occult geek who believes in aliens but dismisses ghosts as nonsense.

To prove who is right, they make a bet to visit a location associated with the other’s belief. Momo goes to an abandoned hospital rumored to be a UFO hotspot, while Okarun ventures into a haunted tunnel. Their expectations are turned upside down when they both encounter entities that defy their understanding. Momo is abducted by a group of aliens called the Serpo, who accidentally unblock her chakras and awaken her latent psychic powers. Meanwhile, Okarun is possessed by a spirit named Turbo Granny, who has an unsettling fixation on stealing his “kintama” (testicles).

This bizarre series of events forces the two to team up. Momo learns to control her new psychokinetic abilities, while Okarun must navigate the curse of being possessed by a powerful yokai. Their adventures are a chaotic blend of action, comedy, and romance as they fight off a wide variety of otherworldly beings, from mischievous spirits and vengeful yokai to bizarre and destructive aliens. The initial plot centers around Okarun’s hilarious and high-stakes quest to retrieve his missing testicles.
